The built-in GPS can track 12 satellites and can acquire lock within 45 seconds from a cold start. With an accuracy of 2m, the GPS coordinates are used to calculate the linear distance between two survey points. This saves the user from measuring the section length.
Should the user need to enter a more accurate distance, or to allow for bends, this can be achieved by entering the distance on the detector keypad.
Once downloaded via serial or USB link to a PC, the DCAPP program (supplied free) can be used to plot the pipeline position on Google Earth™
For sub-metre accuracy, an external Trimble unit can be plugged into C-SCAN. External GPS positioning data is saved automatically with the survey readings.
